It was your average prog, really good, just not to the standard of the other progs of late. I like John Hawards art, and he's a nice guy (met him in Colchester) however... I dunno... his art on the Dredd story, other than the beautiful fat march page just didn't do much for this week.
They say you need to spend money to make money, well I've never made any money so by that logic I've never spent any.

Personally I think Strontium Dog has been the highlight of the prog for several weeks now.

No idea where its going to go but every week it is the strip I look forward to the most.

Only problem is every week I keep expecting S/D to end with a full page panel of a revived Jonny Alpha.  :D

Good prog. Anything was going to be a bit of a let down after the end of Tour of Duty. Dredd was a great one off. Red Seas and Savage were fine. Sin/Dex is looking good and S/D progressed nicely.

As for resurrecting him, I can't say I'm keen, as it's not like his death was portrayed as a version of events, it happened and we all seen it!

Can't say i agree with this.
What Wagner's done since The Kreeler Conspiracy is point out that all the older SD stories were legends of Johnny Alpha, brilliant stories but not particularly accurate.

The new stories are painting a more historically accurate picture of certain events, in this case the tale of the Final Solution.

So what we saw before was simply one popular version of the events, not necessarily how it happened. If that makes sense... :-\

Thats how i read it, anyway.

I read it that way, too, although Kreeler Conspiracy doesn't seem to 'fit' as well as the other stories.

me, i just think it's a pity - for my money the Final Solution was possibly the best SD story ever.  Not happy to see it being written out of existence (or at least retro-altered hugely, if that's a word).

Another thing, and you're going to fecking kill me, but much as I love Ezquerra, I preferred Colin McNeil on the Dog back then to Ezquerra on the Dog now.

I realise Ezquerra invented Johnny and all, but there you go.

Now, y'see, I never liked Final Solution at the time. It felt unpleasant and disrespectful -- Harrison's art (which did actually have the occasional decent panel, but they were few and far between) only contributed to the sense of the story not being canon. As it became apparent that Johnny's demise was inevitable, it felt far too much like Grant taking his ball home, TBH.

I'll be glad to see the back of it, frankly!

Cheers

With Jim hear - you can feel the background politics grinding away in this story (when placed in its time and looking at what else the comic was going through), even without the art undermining the whole enterprise.

Your personal opinions are wrong, of course.  Mine is the correct viewpoint here.

Hmmmm.

DREDD:  Liked this, a slim idea (geddit) backed up by some appropriately fun art.  Haward is much more at home here than in his Tour of Duty stint, and all in all it's a nice sorbet after the heavy flavours of the past year.

RED SEAS:  Every time I think Yeowell has gone too minimal, and that I really would like a look at this much-discussed Cradle of Filth thing that wasn't solely solid blacks or the occasional wispy line, he produces a page of faces in conversation that takes my breath away.

SIN-DEX:  Slipped straight back in like it's never been away, effortless dialogue and clear storytelling.  Nice.

SAVAGE:  Yup, it's Invasion again.  I keep waiting for Silk to show up.  Some fantastic art here, and good to see Colin Farrell getting a bit of work.

STRONTIUM DOG:  I'd probably be happier with the rewrite if this tale grabbed me more... lots and lots of talking, functional art that seems too flat and glossy (although it hurts to say it).  Still, this was the best episode since the first.  Chin up.

Hi guys, this is Carlos, the Squirrel, Ezquerra... anyway, the guy with the moustache and cigar smoking (no anymore!) It's my first time here and I don't know where to write it, but I supposse this place is as good as any other..

As good friends and faithful fans  over so many years I want to share with you my great victory over a lung cancer discover a month ago, so practically I am a  born atheist again, they took away a lung but the rest survived, so from now on when you see 1L.J.S. it'll mean 1lung John Silver.

Cheers mates, you made my life worthwhile!

Hi Carlos!

Great to hear from you! I am shocked and saddened to hear about your illness - but relieved that your operation was a success. I wish you a quick recovery and hope that you will be drawing for many years to come.

Your work is so special and such an inspiration to so many of us here.

Hi, the squirrel!  Sorry to hear about your illness too; glad you're recovering though.  I've been reading 2000ad for about 28 years and I can't imagine my life without your art - you're a legend.

Hi Carlos

You are my absolute hero, been reading 2000AD since it started and I even have your original artwork from Prog 1301 when you came back to 2000AD after Rebellion took over. Really, really sorry to hear about your battle with cancer. I myself smoke and I've tried to stop several times and only just started 'again' in the last few weeks after giving in 'again', I think it's time to stop, but this time for the last time. You're an inspiration, now in life as well as art.

All the best for a speedy recovery.

Mike
