2000 AD announces the launch of US graphic novel line

Rebellion Publishing is pleased to announce the upcoming US launch of iconic British comic 2000 AD’s US graphic novel list this June. The books are to be printed in the United States and distributed by industry major Simon and Schuster. The new North America-only list includes classic collections, outstanding new work from the hottest up-and-coming talents as well as thematic compilations, which collect the work of some of the biggest names in comics, such as Alan Moore, Dave Gibbons, Garth Ennis, Grant Morrison, Alan Davis, John Wagner, Brian Bolland, Pat Mills, Mark Millar and many others.

2000 AD will be releasing two books a month, with the first two books going on sale 15 June 2010. The first releases are:
Judge Dredd Case Files 01: a 400-page collection of John Wagner and Carlos Ezquerra’s iconic creation Judge Dredd – this starts an ongoing series of Judge Dredd collections, which are already European bestsellers.
The Complete D.R. & Quinch: Alan Moore and Alan Davis’s comedy masterpiece, featuring a new Alan Davis cover and excerpts from Alan Moore’s original script.

Founded in 1977, 2000 AD was acquired by the internationally renowned independent videogame developer Rebellion in 2000. In the ten years of its ownership, 2000 AD has gone from strength to strength, with the graphic novel collections becoming bestsellers throughout the UK and Europe. Many of the biggest names in comics today honed their skills and wrote their first important works within its pages.

For many years 2000 AD graphic novels have only been available in North America in highly sought-after imported editions through the direct comics-store market.  2000 AD has developed a large following in the United States, evident in the success the cult British comic has had selling out at every San Diego Comic-Con. This new list meets the clamouring demand from Thrill-seekers throughout North America for Judge Dredd and 2000 AD’s roster of stellar characters.

Nice one. Best of luck! It's about time thrill power was properly available in the third world.  ;)

Awesome! Keeping up with the casefiles from this side of the Atlantic has been a little haphazard and costly (though book depository definitely helps) so that in particular is great news. I'd be happy to see some of the non-Dredd casefiles done that way as well.

I was in the fantastic comic shop in Toronto that some kind boarder recommended, and heard the usual tale of woe in terms of getting hold of 2000AD stuff. Hopefully this deal will redress the situation - there does seem to be a market, to some extent.

Sincere best wishes with this. We UK fans would love to see the word spread.

Fantastic news!

I talk to a fair few people based in the US, and whenever Dredd comes up, they're always a bit non-plussed. Here's hoping Rebellion's excellent presentation of the material wins a few more fans over there.

From what im aware there is only a small team at the 2000ad offices now, so a huge congrats on them for pulling this deal, this is great news for U.S. readers, and if it works well it will make 2000ad and the Megs future all the safer.

Given the right conditions this could be a winner for Rebellion, when Eagle released The American Dredd in the early eighties was one of the biggest selling independents at the time, I think it sold over 200,0000 with no UK distribution.

Just hope things turn out better than what happened with the similar strategy DC and Rebellion tried back in 2004/5. If there's one thing that experience showed, it's that you aren't going to break America with reprints of early Robo-Hunter, Red Razors and 'Judgment' Day!

It looks like a lot more thought has gone into the selection of material this time around, with stuff like the Dredd and Nemesis Case Files and Halo Jones at the forefront. The Dredd: Mega City Masters series running alongside the Case Files seems like a good idea too, and will hopefully help to sell Dredd as a character, showcase the range and quality of the strips over the years, and open people's eyes to such a wealth of material that has seen print AFTER 1988!

And the design and look of the books this time round is MUCH better!  :)

Stevie espied the FULL RIGHT HAND PAGE AD opposite the Rebellion listings in the latest Previews today... looked ARSOM!

The thumbnail row of forthcoming titles saucily winking & fluttering their 'lashes all so mighty fine that my PIN number loosened it's tie & broke  out into a sweat.

However, not wishing to rain on anyone's parade or anything, I couldn't help but notice that the listings for Judge Dredd Case Files 01 & The Complete D.R. & Quinch are appended with "NOT AVAILABLE OUTSIDE THE US, CANADA OR US TERRITORIES"

Will these be distributed here in Auxtralia where sea-freighted progs & megs are also available in the newsagents?
