Got me a new commission
« on: 10 March, 2010, 02:15:42 PM »
You might remember back last year i said i'd come up with an aim to have modern artists do their own take on my favourite 70's British comic character, The Black Max:

Chris Weston did this stunning piece:

And now Dom Reardon has very kindly agreed to add his version. Dom was a must-have, being a master of B&W supernatural fare and has produced this brilliantly creepy version.
Please someone bring back the character - and get Dom on board:

Excuse the dimness of the image but i don't have a big enough scanner to take it so have resorted to taking a photo - and the light ain't good today.

The perspective on that chairs all wrong

slightly OT .. I really love that Chris Weston piece, but looking at in now, wouldn't the airscrew break itself apart if you tried to land that plane. It must be massive.

The Chris Weston one is very impressive and technically magnificent, but that Reardon piece is gorgeous. The way the bats are shown trailing after the biplane is masterful.

I presume you mean the propellers, if so it's all to do with the angle and the way it becomes an optical illusion. I have a picture of myself taken right in front of a fighter jet and I look massive compared to it but in the picture taken from the side I am tiny!

I was trying to work out if it was perspective and failed :) and yes, I mean the propeller. IIRC they were called airscrews circa WW1 hence my use in context

They're both really good, man. The first one has more drama to it. The second is less manic, going for a darker, moodier look.

One suggestion, though - would the lettering in the second one look better if coloured in/ shaded?
