Victory by Greg Broadmore

Has anyone read it?

I've just bought the HB and read it in a single sitting. Beautifully illustrated, it's the story of the British colonization of our galaxy in a pseudo-historical, steam-punk, alternate world setting. Led by Lord Cockswain, British (er...English more likely) expeditionary forces are nigh unstoppable as they journey from planet to planet, wiping out alien wankers and pausing in their conquest only for a spot of tea and perhaps some biscuits. The humor - humour, pardon - is brilliant. Everything is uber-English, and the satire is pulled off perfectly. I think many of you may enjoy it the way I enjoy the satire of Americans and American culture in the Prog.

Anyway, highly recommended if you haven't read it.

I was intrigued by your description (very Space: 1899) but if you'd have told me the full name I'd have been very solidly in if you'd have given the full title:

Dr. Grordbort Presents Victory: Scientific Adventure Violence

Then I saw that magnificent cover!!

Interesting format too - 64 pages but all with a big lovely looking illustration and some text.

Broadmore is the guy from Weta isn't he? You can see some of their ray guns in the earlier "Doctor Grordbort's Contrapulatronic Dingus Directory." Now if only I could find a cheap copy of that.
if I went 'round saying I was an Emperor just because some moistened bint had lobbed a scimitar at me, they'd put me away!

Ha, yeah I should have typed out the entire title.

The art is indeed stunning throughout. There is a strip which is about 10 pages long, but it's actually the weakest part of the book. I can't tell how incredibly hilarious the Imperialist attitude of Lord Cockswain is - from looking down on alien animals because they don't eat biscuits to him stressing that when a group of people perished during a robot's malfunction, there was no need to worry because the deceased were minorities! Do check it out, Emps.

I've got this - and rather good it is too!
I knew it was a sequel (of sorts) so thanks Emps for finding the title of the first Grordbort book - Amazon and ebay, here I come!
