Pencils to Inks
« on: 23 February, 2010, 11:31:11 AM »
Hi all,

I've posted a bunch of pencils to inks (well, except for fearless which, for dull reasons, I pencilled FROM the inks - just to have some pencils from it).

You can see them here: http://www.pauljholden.com/blog/2010/02/22/portfolio/

'Pencils'?  That's pretty old school!

I reckon the inked but uncoloured Dredd pages have a better sense of depth than the printed art.

Very useful stuff, PJ. It's interesting to see how you shade various areas, particularly on the Dredd pages, and where you opt for solid blacks. Also interesting to see where you've changed certain elements after pencils and where you've added detail as you've inked.

Thanks very much for sharing  :)

Now that is cool to see! Good to see the old pencils still come out of the case. Thanks for that.

btw, for a split second the egg chamber in b&w had me thinking it was an Aliens scene!

Yeah, I was deliberately trying to go for something that mixed aliens with proper cracking of eggs.

(those pencils on the Dredd are probably some of the most detailed I've ever done, all because I was following Cliff, I think...)

That one big shot of Dredd with his improvised Armour is just fantastic. Like the Wellington Bomber pages too.
