It's creeping me out a little how real Dredd's hairy chest looks.

I couldn't take my eyes off it. I think I'm on the turn!

Its not a Helltrek you've planned but a groomin trip!  :D
No, Donny, these men are nihilists, there's nothing to be afraid of.

I didn't get why he used ricochet instead of shooting the improbable 'cess tank' directly.

The same thoughts crossed my mind - Can't recall the details, but there was another story not so long ago that featured a pointless ricochet. Maybe he just likes using the exciting ammo now and then to impress the ladies.

Arh I see. Hadn't spotted that. Subtle, unlike the rest of it.

Obviously distracted by Dredd's chest hair.

Dante, as so often recently, was first read and then re-read before I started anything else.  Cracking, cracking stuff.  As so often.

I AM, for a change, starting to tire of these interludes to some degree, mostly because of the wild west elements which are a little hackneyed to my eyes.  I read to two parts in one go and it DID work better together though.  Given the nasty things going on in your life, Jon, I am astonished you managed to turn in such an accomplished job.  I'm hopeful Tharg'll give you another shot soon to remind us of what you can do at your best.

ABCs are fun, but we all know it only really works (as with so much of Pat's recent stuff) as a collection or read in one go.  Can't imagine how all this is going to tie up, but I reckon Blackblood will never rejoin the squad.  Hopefully he'll live to be a thorn in their side for a while before a suitably nasty end.  I am hoping for the redemption of Mek-Quake though.  He's a simpleton and very suseptable to Volkhan's psychic powers/hypnotism/whatever.  Given Pat's mentioned that Mekkers is his own favourite I am hoping that this means he'll be around and given meaty, fun things to do for some time yet.

Don't tend to bother with Future Shocks until later in the week, personally.

I can't get enough of Stickleback.  Second only to Dante in my opinion among the current thrill line-up.

As for the cover, it's eye-catching and a genuine "WHAT THE FUNT?!?" image.  Reckon it's done it's job.  Although I agree the colouring is a little hard on the eyes.  Almost gave me a migraine.  Maybe THAT'S part of Tharg's evil plan......

I would put actual money on Blackblood fulfilling his programming and religion and betraying Volkhan at the most critical moment.  Can he do anything else?

Of course not.  But I can't see Hammerstein, Joe and Mongrol taking him back.  Mek-Quake however might prove to be a hero AND rejoin the squad.  Here's hoping, he deserves a moment in the spotlight.

I enjoyed Lust in the Dust. Quite funny and wotsername... (um...where the hell have I put my prog?)  - her facial expression when covered in slurry was priceless. I've seen sewage tanks like that somewhere - can't think where. I assume you can use gravity to pour the slurry into muck spreaders and go fertilise a field.

Sticklebrick - couldn't see what was going on as usual.
ABC Warriors - Pretty vacant
Dante - fantastic. I love Jena's hair. She's a sexy lady in this version.
Future Shocks - Good fun. I like the art.

I loved the cover - especially the lady-attracting pink. It reminded me of McCarthy a bit too - the acid house years. Dredd's chest hair was disturbing. I am quite partial to a bit of chest hair peeking out of a shirt but this was Dredd!!!!! ??!!! I can't have Bad Woman thoughts about Dredd!!!!

Pass the mind-bleach plz?

Was there a scheduling issue here because that cover looks like it should have been out for Valentine's Day?  I liked it though.

Dredd was fun enough but I don't see the point of the first page (we know she's bad, we can assume she's wanted) and instead of having a page of women waving wanted posters, we could have had some arsom splash page of Dredd vs. the Raptors.  I'd welcome more art in the same style but, like some of the Mike COllins bits earlier, I could see some annoying bits in it.  But overall thumbs up.

DANTE also fun but just too many cliff-hangery bits.

STICKLEBACK - slightly lost as I've never bothered to understand who his gang are so the betrayal was a bit lost on me.

Future Shock - Had some great ideas - possibly too many for 5 pages which meant the twist was a bit of a "and then do something technical to get out of it".  I like Nick Dyer's art but I think this deserved a "glossier" artist.  (I'd have said the same if Cam Kennedy had drawn it; I just think Casino's and hiests need less scratchy lines)

ABC - Not for me thanks in either art or script.
If in doubt, go for the knob gag.

I just gave this another read last night (displacement activity), and decided it was actually really, really good.  I know what Tips means when he says 'something technical', but in proper Future Shock fashion the mind-transfer technology was at the core of the story from Page 1, so I'd give it a thumbs up for being  the resolution too.  I confess my mind initially skipped over this one because it just seemed so dense, but giving it a more relaxed read that condensed feel is a real strength, and I was amazed by how much is squeezed into those few pages, and how neatly it all ties together.   The art practically requires a magnifying glass to fully appreciate, but squint a bit and its marvelous down there.  Genetically engineered tiger bouncers called Siegfried and Roy, that's worth a story on its own.

I have just read the Nick Dyer drawn future shock and it reminds me more than quite a bit of McMahon artwork from the early 80s.Its noticable to me in the style of inking as it has the same look.

Does anyone else notice a similarity at all ?

nick does have a bit of an exaggerated cartoony style to his work and while i didnt like it at first it is slowly growing on me and its also good to see someone working in B+W as its wonderfully old school.I am curious if he has any other styles or wether or not he caqn draw in a less cartoony style because i find it works really well for this particular strip but it might not work quite so well on a more serious strip but having said that i always found Mc|Mahons style slightly exaggerated and cartoony yet it work perfectly well for JD and Slaine so what the hell ?

I definately think rather like McMahon or the majority of the older artists who worked in B+W that his art wouldnt suit being colored and anyway i love B+W art so i am already biased and heavily so.

These are just some of my thoughts and reflections after reading the strip so in a way i am just thinking out loud.

Totally agree with you there Peter, and I liked his Dredd last year too.His work is full of energy IMO. I think I know what you mean about 'serious' strips, but I'd be more than happy to see him tackle anything.

For those of you out there who like Nick's work- and I'm one of them- you really want to get ready for Zarjaz 09.

Nick has provided a set of pages that are in my opinion stunning.
