If you've got the money, yes.  Admittedly not a great selection of exclusives beyond Dead Rising and Halo 3, but by now there are dirt-cheap games knocking about.

Paying for online gaming sticks in the craw, all the same.  Haven't I paid for the game already?

Most games are on both. It depends on whether you want these Xbox exclusives:-

- Gears of War 1 and 2
- Mass Effects 1 and 2
- Halo 3 (exceptional)
- Halo ODST (all-rightish and short)
- Fable II and, later this year III (a bit twee for my tastes)
- GTA IV DLC (Lost & Damned, The Ballad of Gay Tony)

It depends on whether any of these grab your attenton. The Mass Effects and Gears of War are stupendous and I think I'd buy an Xbox to play them. The Halos are good but derivative. Fable is either you bag or it isn't. If you like it, then it's very very good. The GTA stuff depends on how much you like GTA!

I'm swithering in the opposite way. I have an Xbox, should I get a PS3? I quite fancy God of War and Drake's Fortune. Are they worth it?

XBox is great value in terms of price in comparison to the PS3. And until the 360/PS3 were released I was a pure PlayStation devotee. Dead Rising is way too much fun. I was playing that for a weekend before I realised there was an actual storyline to follow.

Most games these days are cross platform, and then as said by The Enigmatic Dr X, it comes down to what sort of games you prefer.

But you may need a third testicle to play Gears Of War, it's so full of testosterone...

Drake's Fortune was very entertaining, but Uncharted 2 was worth buying the PS3 for.
Couldn't really say much about the other PS3 exclusives as MGS4 has remained unplayed for a year now as I'm put off by talk of its hour-long cut-scenes, Little Big Planet seems really fun but isn't my thing, Resistance 1 and 2 are good FPS but hardly defining moments in the genre, and Killzone 2 would probably be one of the best FPS ever made except there's something off about how it responds - an observation made by more than just me, apparantly - and it taints the experience.
PS3 works well as a multimedia device - so much so that Microsoft thankfully ripped off the OS interface for the 360.

No backwards compatibility is a bummer (especially given the shitload of second-hand last-gen games you can pick up for buttons), though you can play PS1 games with little trouble - if you'd want to is another matter - but Sony have already patented the software that would allow a later downloadable patch to enable PS2 compatibility (the PS3 still retains the function to create an internal PS2 card), so unless they make a killing selling downloadable PS2 games via the online store, backwards compatibility is only a matter of time.

I have a 360 but no PS3. I'm not finding a lot of time to play my 360, these days, but when I did, I enjoyed the hell out of DEAD RISING. In fact, for survival horror fans, I would say it's a must-play experience - . It totally redefined that sub-genre, for me. And that was a tough enough job to do, considering how recently RE4 had been released.

As it happens, I've had the pleasure of playing DRAKE's on a friend's PS3 and thoroughly enjoyed it. Would I buy a PS3 to play it, alone? Maybe not. But it is a damn good game...

I guess the main question in either case is whether you have the funds to buy both consoles and then all the games you wish to play on them. For me, that's a no-no. However, I'm also a little tired of the constant onslaught of FPS games. With the exception of HALO, I'm not really a fan of these and they seem to represent the bulk of the genre game market...

I love the 360, think it would probably be the finest console ever made, were it not for the unforgivable reliability issues. I honestly think the Xbox has a vastly superior library of games to the PS3 (perhaps weighted a little too heavily on shooters - but then I like shooting stuff).

Games I own (and would recommend):

Aliens Vs Predator
Halos 1,2,3 and ODST (and the forthcoming Reach looks great too)
Left 4 Dead
Banjo Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts (criminally underrated - takes a few hours to get into, but once you do it's superb and like nothing else I've ever played)
Gears of War 1&2 (Gears 1 is good, 2 is exceptional - I think it has actually overtaken Halo as my favourite shooter now)
The Orange Box
You're in the Movies! (looks shit, but is actually very good fun with a few mates and beers - I got it for £11.99 new, but wouldn't advise paying more than that for it)
GTA IV and Episodes from Liberty City
Trials HD (half excellent game, half frustrating elitist mess)
Shadow Complex
Rez HD

A remastered Perfect Dark is being released on XBLA in March - very much looking forward to that, too.

The last Perfect Dark was pure mince, but an upgrade of the N64 version would be most welcome.  That and Goldeneye.
I also can't recommend Jetpac enough - free for a trial on Xbox Live, but worth buying because of the cheap price and the fact you can play an updated HD version, or a complete port of the original ZX version, complete with colour clash.
Shadow Complex is also awesome, but like the nearest equivalent - Gunstar Heroes - far too short.

the finest console ever made, were it not for the unforgivable reliability issues

I now view the inevitable 360 replacement as a minor nuisance compared to the PS3 going tits-up and taking all your HD data with it.
The main issue I've had with the 360 is the controller designed for lizard-people from Venus rather than human being-sized hands.  If it was better-designed, I'd play the 360 far more often, but the layout is counter-intuitive unless your first console experience was the Xbox controller, ironically making the biggest design failure of the PS3 its biggest asset for me - the controller is identical to the last few iterations and still heavily derivative of earlier consoles like the Mega Drive and Snes, while the 360's feels like a chunkier Dreamcast pad (an impression not helped by the colour scheme), which I also really hated.

A nerdy complaint, I know, and hardly a deal-breaker, but it does bug me now and again.

Watch out for the Arcade version, as it has no hard-drive which makes downloading stuff next to impossible (it has a 512mb flash memory, so you can download some stuff).

Also, the wireless adapter (if you want to go wi-f) is about £50

It's definitely happening - out 17th March (I think). There were plans to do Goldeneye first, but there was a problem with copyright. Apparently the 360 update of Perfect Dark will feature some of the weapons and levels from Goldeneye, so it's the next best thing, really.

Really? To me, it's the epitome of traditional controllers, taking the best elements of everything that come before, whereas Dual Shock seems a bit old fashioned.

This goes for me too, but I would say, from a techy point of view, I like the PS3 more!  ;)

I agree with what's been said here.

To get all the best there is, if you can afford it, a 360 and PS3 are essential I reckon.

LIVE is the draw for me with the 360.

for along time we did not have playstation network here in singapore, as such it was not a hard choice.
if you want something differnt go for a WII, we did that, we have a 360 got a wii for the fun angle.but its about games really, the lack of exclusives these days make it an easier choice, most games are time exclusive only.

playstation offers the blu-ray of course, which is a good draw if the location is in the main room.
I AM VERY BUSY!
