In America 2 it says the statue was blown up, and only a hand remains.

You can still see the base of the statue to the side of the hand/torch so maybe it has been rebuilt from the bits?

The slightly rougher looking reprint of Fading of the Light in the new America book makes it  look a lot better than when first printed.
