I'm sorry Mighty One, please forgive me!!!!!
I never intended to do that. I bought a job lot of progs last January and only ever intended to pick out stories of interest and read them, but I picked up issue 1 on the first night and that was it!
So I just need to give me thrill circuits a good old recharge I guess!
Gryphons! Smoke Demons! Psychopathic killers! Kick-ass Babes! Angry Donkeys! All in VANGUARD! Just a few copies of issue 1 left and when they're gone - they're gone!

Great Prog, pretty much everything was funtastic.

Cover:  Should stop you St. George's Day aficionados from moaning - get this on a T-shirt stat Tharg, keep the whiny poms happy.
Dredd:  Some great internal monloguing from Dredd, and really nice art, but I'd have liked some explanation of what the metal-scaled dragon was, beyond 'just another Cursed Earth monster'. Another Rennie dangler, or just a shrug of the shoulders?   Either way, a fun tale, well told (BTW,  I assumed the prophecy was fulfilled, in that it referred to Dredd and the mutant).
Stickleback:  Heh, StickyStickyBackBack versus L'il Miss Lovelace, nice!  Absolutely great visuals, but pity the missile launcher wasn't maybe a bit more steampunky.  As to caring about the characters, I'm tearing me hair out hoping the others weren't really killed at Carfax.
Ampney Crucis: a satisfying and logical conclusion, if a bit rough on the unfortunate Chipps lineage, and I think 'Fenians' are a bit anachronistic for the 1920's.  Remarkable art right through this series, but the panel of the War Child coming apart took the biscuit.  Liked this run way more than the first outing, and think it definitely has legs - more please, and soon.
ABC Warriors:  I didn't hate it, but the Warriors' wimpery didn't ring true.  Did they agonise over dispatching the Shadow Warriors?
Dante:  Really hoping everyone makes it out... but I wouldn't bet on it.

Seriously, what's with the massive forehead in Dante? It's been bugging me for weeks now.

The proportions are slightly different I think; my guy, whoever he is, is more of a cro-magnon Simon Cowell. Hawkmoore looks more like an egg.

Did you know that Cro-Magnon is just the name of a shallow cave behind an eponymous hotel in the Dordogne?  I have a picture somewhere, there were beer barrels and wine crates stacked in front of it when I visited, mildly disappointing (they were empty).  And the odds of the bloke they found in that cave looking noticeably different from Shutdown Man are slim.

EDIT:  Although I see that has just changed.

Now I understand why reading Dante keeps giving me the urge to buy a new kettle ...

I think the Tefal forehead Ms Hawksmoor is famed for is part of her resemblance to her dad, Sir Richard (last seen in "The Courtship of Jena Makarov way back in the third TPB, this story will be in the tenth)?

*runs off to look and see if Hawksmoor snr has a Tefal head*

Yeah.  Dead daddy had a massive, bull-like forehead.  Hence her hideous skullage.

Good to see Spatchcock & Flintlock back in the prog, criminally underused comic foils to our hero and loveable scumbags (unlike Dante, completely unreconstructed) to boot.  Hurray!

That, ABCs & Stickleback were the highlights.  Dredd continues to be fun, but not QUITE the stellar quality much of Tour of Duty has been.

Apney was fair enough, but that's been true so far anyway.  I'm looking forward to the strip's return in the near future, so it can build.

Cracking cover too.  Looking forward to the next prog already.

I enjoyed Dredd the Dragonslayer and PJ Holden's art just seems better every time I look at it.

The Dredd Dragonslayer story was great. One of my fav Dredds since I returned to the Progs. I liked that little mutant dude and The Duke - very cool characterisation.

To be honest, I'm not really getting into Stickleback nor Dante. ABC Warriors, however, goes from strength to strength.

Proving beyond a shadow of a doubt the shimmering, crystalline beauty of the anthology format.

Cheers!

I used to work for ICL in Gorton in Manchester. The fact that Gorton sometimes doubles as Chatsworth estate in Shameless should give you some idea of the area.  Needless to say, a Mainframe Development centre packed full of eccentric british computer geeks wasn't a good fit for the area.

In THE ACES pub, opposite work, there used to be a bit of graffiti that said "FUCK OFF ICL TEFAL HEADS".

Remember it, with a smile, to this day.

I'll remember the Dragon Slayer story and Stickleback with a smile, Dante and Ampney with ambivalence and ABC Warriors might make me write some graffiti of my own.
If in doubt, go for the knob gag.
