I need advice on writing a Synopsis, please!
« on: 04 February, 2010, 12:46:39 PM »
Hi,
Righto- I am confused over the writing of a synopsis for a GN

Just how long should it be?
Should it be a blow by blow account of the plot, or a generalisation?

For instance, if it was to be a 60 page GN, what should the synopsis length be ?
3 pages ?

(ie: on the Submission page, it says a 1 page synopsis for a 5 page Future Shock)

I am about to produce a 'Pitch Pack', and I was thinking I should have the first page as almost like the back cover for a novel- a quick sell, if you like, and then a fully written synopsis following that.
Would this be workable? or just I just got for the jugular with the synopsis?

Any advice greatly received!!

Dan.

PM me and when I get home, I'll send you the synopsis of the GN I'm writing.

A synopsis for a pitch is a different beast to the blurb on the back of a novel - you have to outline the whole story in a way which is interesting and engaging (making the reader/editor want to move on to the script) but also making sure you demonstrate the plot and ideas. It is a tricky thing so take up Rich's offer - it clearly worked!!
if I went 'round saying I was an Emperor just because some moistened bint had lobbed a scimitar at me, they'd put me away!
