Right, unless the NEXT post is on digital comics in SOME form (rather than apple politics, misunderstandings or general non-digital-comics-in-some-form related posting) then YOU'RE ALL ON MY IGNORE LIST. EVEN ME.

When are we gonna see Murderdrome again, then, PJ? How cool will it look on the iPad?

:-)

Cheers!

uhm... uhm... soon!

Actually, in an unrelated way, I have a working strategy for dealing with the iPad (and a.n. other related potential digital comic readers) it is multi pronged:

Release a free comic via the interwebs, building week by week (this is the freakangels model) 2-3 pages of comic strip.

Release a 22 page, monthly version of the same comic as a CBR file and whatever other digital formats are available - either in advance of or after - I THINK advance might be better - giving people a reason to pick it up. But it could go either way.

Try and get the same strip placed, for free, as a backup in a monthly print title.

Finally, collect the entire series into a Trade print - either via lulu, or, if the audience is built up sufficiently go with a proper publisher.

Any thoughts from the comic making crowd?

Some notes:
This bypasses the whole pre-order wait system, but would still require a large amount of built up material (working on it!)

Profit (if any) would come from the digital cbr files/app files (sold via the website, and all other applicable venues)

That was my original point about the real shot in the arm to comics being web comics. FreakAngels is just using the model that web comics like The Devils Panties and Scary-Go-Round and many others have been using for donkeys years. That, hand in hand with things like T-Shirt sales and other apparel has not only kept many web comics afloat but also allowed many artists to give up the day job and do comics full time and get a morgage too. Forget what you read your web comic on that kind of thinking is missing the boat, its the fact that its availible to read for free and then conveniantly buy collected that is working right now. And then the T-Shirt. And then the Shopping bag/poster/mug holder/backpack/hoodie.

Clickwheel (no disrespect) is a nightmare - I find it hard to quantify exactly why;

Sweet merciful jesus, that site is nasty lookin'. I also get what you mean about Clickwheel, but I wouldn't know how to change it for the better. At least it works, I guess.

You know, if you want to discuss where to get comics for the Apple iPad rather than discuss the iPad itself, this thread is already a good 14 pages long, so you could start a new one on the subject.

At almost exactly the same time (although I was lagging behind you) I was writing some very similar in an email minus the back-up (great idea if you can swing it) but with the thought of making the 22 pager also available as a comic book (through POD). So, after pondering if there was some kind of memesurge in the aether, I official declare this a brilliant idea, possibly bordering on genius.

I can't get it to. When I click on the individual prog links it just hangs. I'm only going there for nosey reasons and not purchasing ones so haven't made a fuss but it is clunky, unwieldy and I can't get it work. It wouldn't matter too much if it is more a conduit to other publishing platforms like the Apple store.

I'm assuming you mean drivethru comics rather than clickwheel?

Nope I've download a few of Drivethru's free comics quite easily - its design is in need of a polish but it is easy enough to navigate and is intuitive. On Clickwheel I can't get past the listing of individual issues - I click on the issue and nothing happens. It is the only bit of the site that doesn't seem to work for me but it'd be a crucial one if I was after buying the comics.

Seems everyone is showing off their iPad comics readers, should be interesting:

www.bleedingcool.com/2010/04/01/marvels-app-on-the-apple-ipad-confirmed/
www.bleedingcool.com/2010/04/02/comixologys-ipad-comics-reader-app-in-pictures/

Any news on Clickwheel's plans? I'd assume they'd want to move quickly into this territory and that'd bring 2000 AD with it.

Jim Lee drawing on the iPad using his finger and it is still embarrassingly good:

www.bleedingcool.com/2010/04/05/jim-lee-tutorial-drawing-comics-on-the-ipad/

Although to be fair he could probably draw better than me with a pencil wedged up his ass.
