90% of the manufactured items in the world have china parts!!!

Very true. The Foxconn suicides were widely reported as being linked to iPad production, but that particular manufacturing plant (a somewhat inadequate term for the scale of the place) is also a major supplier of components to Sony, HP and Nokia. You'll be very hard-pressed to buy consumer electronics that aren't originated, at least in part, in China.

Cheers!

Jim

It is very true unfortunately and very difficult to avoid and i feel exactly the same way about goods that are made in SE Asia but to save everyone a very long rant about Globalisation and corporations i wont bother explaining why.

Its all very convenient that Steve Jobs/Apple can distance themselves from the dehumanising conditions of the factories that they outsource to as its just a get out clause but the likes of Steve Jobs know exactly what they are involved in as they do deals with the Chinese govt.

So i do have ethical reasons and a multitude of other reasons why i dont like buying Apple products and i think Steve Jobs is another corporate elitist who just happens to make very good products at others expense of course but everyone should at least be aware of the true cost of the crap that we buy and how outsourcing and the moving of Western manufacturing base to China and SE Asia is destroying our economies just so corporations like Apple can make obscenely huge profits.

The likes of Ap-ple are the only winners as the cash they save in outsourcing production isnt passed onto us.

All of that pales in comparison to what i think about Bill Gates/Microsoft and Apple really are the lesser of the two evils.

I'm hoping that, secretly, Rebellion are already talking to comixology and they're building a 2000AD specific reader that includes subscriptions -but I'm a dreamer...)
If not, they're bat-shit crazy. Seriously. Comixology is the only place to be on iOS, and even DC has finally figured this out. With the way Comixology works, 2000 AD would be part of the same thing that pretty much every other major and indie worth its salt is involved with *and* there's potential for an alternate own-branded app (like the DC and Marvel ones), trades alongside single issues, digital-only specials, and so on.

By contrast, Rebellion currently has Clickwheel, which isn't optimised for iPad and was last updated... on October 9, 2008. Great.

(Also, joining Comixology needn't remove Clickwheel anyway, in the same way that 2000 AD being sold in WHSmith doesn't stop subs going through FPI or sales happening through other retailers.)

One quesetion guys, should I have the OS4, the folders and the multitasking on my ipad yet? Whenever I tell itunes to check for an update it tells me I have the latest software. It seems daft that I can do it on my phone but not my ipad...

No. The iPad version of the OS isn't quite the same and the update was promised "later in the summer."

I'll say it again… I don't know why a simple pressure sensor (little more complex than an upside down spring balance) can't be built into a stylus. The capacitive screen can track the position of the stylus and the pressure data can be fed back by bluetooth.  Sit back and watch Wacom shit their collective pants…

Cheers

Yup- and this would, I suspect, tip the balance and result in a lot more people (me included) buying one.

I think, in counter-balance to this, it's worth (belatedly) pointing out that Apple have an environmental policy that is industry-leading in the computer sector and have gone beyond any currently mandated requirements for eliminating lead-, arsenic- and bromine-based compounds, whilst increasing the use of more easily recyclable materials like glass and aluminium. They also have a published code of supplier conduct against which they audit not only their direct suppliers but also the secondary and tertiary contributors to the supply chain. Could they be doing more? Certainly. Are there corporations of this size with better ethical and environmental policies? Damn few, to be honest.

Cheers!
