Ban-tastic Friday: Scojo Appreiciation Station

Am I the only one who thinks that Planetoid, even if he is the dreaded Scojo, has been rather badly treated?
If he and Scojo are the same person, so what? I understand that I wasn't around when Scojo was banned originally, but if he really is mentally ill, as has been suggested, then surely it would be better to simply ignore his posts rather than goad and bait him. I don't give a shit if someone is obsessed by their own work; I'm not forced to read it after all.
It does seem as though Scojo is seen as a legitimate target to say absolutely anything derogatory about, no matter how horrible. I've seen similar behaviour directed towards Peterwolf in the past also. Ok, his politics may be slightly suspect but I don't think that this is an excuse to resort to what basically seems like bullying.
I stand to be corrected - maybe things were alot worse in the past than I imagine, but do we really have to take absolutely every opportunity to point out someones shortcomings and basically demonise them? It seems a shame to me as this place is usually so fun and friendly.

I'd like to apologise for ignorance and netbravery contributing, however much or little, towards the quagmire the boards were yesterday - sorry to all involved, Planetoid included.  For what it's worth mate, if you were to stand up and maybe accept a little criticism and listen to VinceBot's points, I'd be glad to have you back.

I'd also like to apologise to Vincebot and the rest of the web-bots for ruining your weekend.

Years ago, as a newcomer to the boards, I used to think much the same thing - couldn't see what all the fuss was about. But trust me, once you've seen this happen five or six times, when the board's been threatened with deletion, when several sane and entertaining boarders have been driven permanently away, you'll get a tight little knot in your belly when the suspicision that he's back rears its head. The board becomes Not A Very Nice Place To Be.

They were.  

All of us have thought in precisely your sensible reasonable fashion at one time or another.  I can well see how it looks: all the pally boarders ganging up on a poor sod with genuine problems and chanting 'kill the pig' instead of just ignoring him.  But trust me, over the long years we've tried literally everything, including compassion, reason and blindness and nothing works except quick detection and instant banning.  This isn't the first or even the tenth time we've been over this ground.  Bear in mind that he (and one or two fellow travellers) completely destroyed our first online home, alt.comics.2000AD.  It may not be entirely his fault, it may be the product of how this group's demographic reacts to his particular schtick, but the simple fact is that when Scott shows up this board disintegrates.  As you know plenty of folk here work with the mentally ill, plenty more have been there themselves, so there's no shortage of understanding.  It just doesn't do any good.

It's an either-or proposition:  no Scott, or no forum.

And I'm not being over-dramatic, that's genuinely is how it is.  Apologies for sounding unbearably patronising.

Sorry if I offended anyone's sensibilities when I outed Scott, but beyond that I regret nothing.

A huge chunk of the blame for alt.comics.2000ad's ruination lies at Scott's feet, and he has already disrupted this board on enough previous occasions for the incredibly moderate Wake to slap a lifetime ban on him.

As I said originally, this is pathological with him -- there's no reasoning with him, and he just clogs up any forum he's a member of with incessant multiple garbage posts. You CAN'T just ignore him -- he unbalances the signal to noise ratio so wildly that the forum becomes unusable.

And that's BEFORE we consider his previous behaviour -- calling people paedophiles and starting humorous threads about their dead pets.

Some bad feeling runs too deep, and some behaviour is inexcusable.

i missed it all again...when i joined this board as an unsullied fresh faced newbie mogzilla i got into a debate on the "origins" story with some fella and it quickly desended into hell. i thought the guy was taking things a little too seriously when iposted summat on judge death baybisitting my child .
   it then became a mess with people telling scott to fuck off and accusing me(i thought ) of being summat called a scojo...i thought this was a nickname like a troll that people use on t'internet that as a newbie knew(bie) nowt about

you are always gonna get nutters on boards hell, most of the regulars on the ebay board are! and the old banned bit of the old site demonstrated i do wish however wish i'd been around when scojo pretended to be a female nurse!

Only found you about this because of some FB posts. So Planetoid was Sc*j*? Could that be why I avoided direct contact with him on thread? Whatever, I just hope we dont lose King Trout over this and while I am the first to admit I dont really see eye to eye with Peter Wolf on 97.7% of things I think it is a bit of a shame he felt he had to shut his account. I will miss the 3.3% of the time he not only made sense but was also right.

Agreed and agreed and agreed.  You don't have to agree with someone to lament their departure - Peterwolf was a regular and often insightful contributor.  I hope he comes back soon, he'll be missed.

And as for the Trout?  Well, everyone loves the Trout.

I've been trying to figure out what's been going on here with all the bannings and banners and bannees and such. I won't pretend to understand what happened, but I think I can guess. Arguments. Accusations. Insults. Escalation. Fallout.

I have to say that I'm sorry to see Peter Wolf go. No matter what you thought of his politics, you have to admit he was right about one thing: The world could be run better. I respect his decision to leave, but I hope he'll reconsider.
