I've been thinking lately how perfectly Nikolai Dante would work as a videogame.

It would be a God of War/Prince of Persia: Sands of Time-style 3rd person combat/platformer following the narrative of the comic series exactly. Dante's first appearance, fighting off the Tsars' soldiers in the Imperial seductresses boudoir would form the tutorial level, and you would gain the bio-blade abilities and Huntsman rifle (which would introduce ranged combat) as you progressed through the game. The Romanov Crest would provide technical data, hints and mission objectives etc, as well as providing a neat explanation for your regenerating health.

Bosses could include the white army reiver, Hawksmoore, Count Pyre and the Romanov twins Alexandr and Alexandra.
Bonus levels could include short flight sections piloting the Romanova Eagle, or perhaps letting you play as one of the other Romanovs. The graphics would be sort of cel-shaded and would be based on Si's artwork.

Although I never really played em I always liked the idea of a vast third-person online Dredd thing where you'd be a Judge and sort of...go through all these big mega-city events. Have to hole-up during the apocalypse war, battle zombies, etc etc. You'd only occasionally encounter Dredd and famous types like that. And it would be like...check it out, there's Dredd...

...like Jesus in Ben Hur.

Years ago, when Half-Life 2 came out, I thought an Apocalypse War scenario would make for a good game. Not a novel idea, as I'm sure anyone who's played HL2 or Medal of Honor type games has thought much the same. Anyway...

You'd be a Rookie heading in to the Halls of Justice one morning, and after wandering around, drinking in the atmos, you'd take a combat exam, which'd be a weapons training level, then a nice Lawmaster training bit.

Suddenly disaster strikes, East Meg missiles hit MC1. You find your way out of the ruins and set about progressing through the city, encountering Blockmaniacs, Sentenoids, Rad-Sweepers, Sov troops etc, and hooking up at times with Citi-Def units and other Judges. Partly mission based, and partly just making your way through the ruins, you'd take part in events such as getting the CJ out of the city, regaining Weather Control, and accompaning Dredd on the Strato-V to EM-1.

Tooling around on a Lawmaster (in some levels), and scavenging ammo against the backdrop of a city in chaos, with intermitent orders from Comm, and grim news broadcasts, is my idea of a fun MC-1 game.

I just remembered that I thought a cute idea would be that you'd come across a Tek lab with early Mechanismo prototypes, and you'd spend a level with your brain plugged into a Mechanismo (remote controlling it) in order to destroy heavy opposition so you could progess. Hell, now that I think about it, you could stumble across a Land Raider, and a Manta Tank too! Why not? :-p

Slaine: Grand Theft Dragon.

I didn't think you like Slaine that much.

I like your idea. It seems you've been nursing this one for awhile. Very well thought out and I almost want to see that happen.

Do you have a plan for Slaine?

Since playing "Total Overdose" which indroduces a system of making time run back to the moment just before your character bites the dust. --Reminds of me of the one time Slaine actualley got killed in battle in Slaine : Time-Killer-- So you get another chance to live again, but only if you been collecting skulls. There's also the illusion of slowing down time taken from "Max Payne" which seems applicable to Slaine. Given his applitude for speed in battle and then there's the Loco moves. Which are like magical battle abilites. For instance "The El Mariachi" : As you are now holding twin guitar cases that are concealed machine guns. "The Golden Gun" which appers your hand for limited amount of time deliver instant death from afar. "The El Toro" Which allows you to Trample foes under foot like a raging bull. There are more of these and I could go on. These sound alot like those Celtic miltary manuevers taught to Slaine by Scáthach (or her equivelent!) otherwise this games alot like a poor man's Grand Theft Auto. As "Total Overdose" is not quite as generous to you as it's original predessor. The Mexican City where it's set is devided into smaller sections which need to load before you can cross over to them. The only time you see a map is when you have crossed a border. So it's easy to get lost in town. If your sent on a misson ouside town, then you will arrive there after a short cut scene. You can't actually walk or drive there. Sight-Seeing a non no. Anytime you go for dip in the ocean, your instantly returned to the shoreline with a warning.

Regarding the "Grand Theft Auto" game signature. Stealing and hijacking cars, trucks, motorcycles, boats, planes and  Godpleton's earlier suggestion. I'm sure if their idea is like mine. But I have thought of the realistc applications of trying do the same thing in a game where all those modern contrivances are replaced by horses, dinosaurs, chariots, ice skiffs, ice towers, sky blades, cloud Curraghs, dragons. for a short while, I thought this might diffcult to pull off. Like how would slaine reach a flying boat from the ground in the first place. He might already be there as a bodyguard or passenger or he could jump from the back of his dragon. I guess it could really work like in the original game in this respect. How might a mere babarian wrestle control of flying ship if he can't fly one himself. Maybe he could poke the Drune lord with a goading rod or knock out the steersman and take over from him.

Hunt bounty, travel to different planets etc....

Do it.

I'm always saying this when the topic comes up, but an ABC s game would rock my socks off, done properly.

The draw would be that you could switch between team members as and when you needed to, setting the others to lay down covering fire, attack, defend or what have you in the meantime. Pinned down by a pesky sniper that you can't get to? Switch to Joe Pineapples and take him up to an opposing rooftop to take care of it. Being attacked by demonic enemies impervious to your weapons? Switch to Deadlock and have him enter the ethereal plane for a little hack n' slash. Come up against a heavily-defended roadblock? Have Mongrol soften up the defences then send Mek-Quake in tank form crashing right through the middle.

Etc, etc. You get the idea, I'm sure.

now THAT would be a fearsome game.

It's always easier (as Star Wars has proved time and time again) to stretch a universe around a pre-existing engine. If so, surely Fable II's engine would be a sodding good base for some game. Strontium Dog would be damn good in that sense. Third person - open-worlded, roaming planets for bounties and suchlike. Dante could also work beautifully like that.
