Blimey, action shot ! Very good considering the time factor. I say if your time's limited just bung down a colour in photoshop and try to think of the most recognizable trait of the character in J.D's case his chin and helmet and take it from there. I just bung the colour on top of the blue black background because it will cool it down though it looks a bit grubby. CraveNoir- it just gets better every time I see  it man!

Thank you for the compliment. (Although I don't know what Euro-spaghetti means!)

All I see, however, is the thin neck, head too far forward, unfinished far side of the helmet, shoulder pad too low, chain and chest too loosely defined. Also the circle should be moved more to the left, and I don't like the nose or the nasolabial folds. I've had a few more stabs since, and it's still pretty tough to get it all done in 15 mins, even with brushes and colours on "speed-dial", but of the ones I've done I think this one still has the most energy and "potential".

I'd be a LOT happier with a 30 minute time limit, but then that rather stetches the point of the exercise.

Careful you don't fall into the Brian Bolland trap and start saying, 'I'd be a LOT happier with a two week time limit.'

Euro-spaghetti is kind of apt.

There's some cool stuff coming up on this thread, great idea Brendan.

I think that's the first drawing I've seen by Jim. Lovely stuff. Can't wait to see your art comp entry this month.

I think I might have another go with a biro.

Radiator's one reminds me of Mike Mcmahon for some reason. Love that style. Is the white a tippex pen?

It's reminiscent of European artists -like Carlos- who have a very spaghetti western scratchy type feel.

Excellent Dredd head and very original style. You've got Dredd's grimace down to a fine art paddybrown.

Here's my spot on 15 minute Dredd (my daughter timed me), I used rotring isograph pen (skipped the pencil stage no time) and then coloured with fw acrylic inks and brush (bit of a cheat there as i had my colours out and ready to use) .

Don't hold your breath ... that's the genius of this thread. It neatly sidesteps my own tendency for procrastination, faffing about, over-rendering and talking myself out of entering at all.

Once upon a time, I used to sketch compulsively, and I think I ought to start again.

Thanks for the compliments on my effort, BTW, even if you're all being FAR too kind.

Cheers

Where's that Buttonmoonman? He could draw ten Dredd heads in 15 minutes?

And each would be funnier than the last!

But Jim - are you indeed Dave McKean in disguise, as Leigh Shepherd said?
